Linear Displacement Definition

The definition of Linear Displacement is movement in a straight line along a single axis – up and down or side to side.

In many instances, linear displacement measuring, and monitoring is required. For this measurement, a linear position sensor is required. At Positek we have a wide range of linear position sensors which can be used in various industries and environments

Linear Displacement Sensors

Here at Positek we have our range of linear displacement sensors which use our unique technology knows as PIPS.

Our range of linear displacement sensors can be divided into the following categories:

Intrinsically Safe Linear Displacement Sensors – our intrinsically safe linear displacement sensors have ATEX, IECEx and CSA approval which makes them suitable to environments where there is risk of explosion.

Submersible Linear Displacement Sensors – our submersible linear displacement sensors are suitable for underwater applications and are sealed to IP68 350bar.

Standard Linear Displacement Sensors – our standard linear position sensors are suitable for any application in any industry. As well as standard products we are also able to provide custom solutions with short lead times.

Advantages of PIPS Linear Displacement Sensors

Our linear displacement sensors have the following advantages;

  • High reliability
  • Have improved stroke to length ratio when compared to other inductive position sensors
  • Suitable for use where space is restricted
  • Extremely robust
  • Highly accurate
  • Fast Delivery – sometimes as short as just 2 days

Other types of linear displacement sensors

There are other types of linear displacement sensors available; some of these are;

  • Potentiometers
  • Eddy Current Sensors
  • LVDTs
  • Cable Extension Transducers
  • Ultrasonic
  • Laser position sensors

Although these alternative technologies are not manufactured by Positek, they are technologies that are available within the Variohm Group. If you require a linear displacement sensor with one of the above technologies, please contact us.

Linear Displacement Application Areas

Linear Displacement is something that requires measuring in almost every industry, some of these areas are;

  • Robotics
  • Automation
  • Instrumentation
  • Machine Tools
  • Food processing
  • Mobile Vehicle
  • Autosport
  • Motorsport
  • Agricultural Machinery
  • Suspension Measurement

And many other areas.
