Positek's Rotary Transducers are cost-effective alternatives to traditional
rotary potentiometers. Non-contact transducers using Positek's
novel PIPS® (Positek Inductive Position
Sensor) technology are most suitable for demanding control and feedback
applications. For many applications, traditional rotary
potentiometers can give reliability and signal integrity problems
after a period of time. The life of traditional rotary potentiometers
is limited by wear on the track and contacts, particularly when high
levels of vibrations exist. Also, a traditional rotary potentiometer
can give a noisy output signal due to micro lifting of the wiper contacts.
In a Positek inductive Rotary transducer the inductive coil is completely
protected from the moving parts and therefore is not subject to any
wear. The coil in a Positek inductive Rotary transducer is constructed
using printed circuit board techniques. The life and the ability to
withstand high vibration levels is therefore considerably extended.
Positek's patented ASIC provides the Positek's inductive Rotary transducer
with the ability to consistently produce a stable output signal. The
basic circuit operates from a 5 volt supply and produces a 0 to 5
volt output which is ratiometric to the supply voltage. The current
drain is typically 10mA. The supply voltage and output are common
in automotive applications but in the fluid power industry a wide
range of input/output options need to be available.
A particular feature of Positek's inductive Rotary transducer is
the wide variety of standard interface options available. Using a
small amount of additional circuitry within the inductive Rotary transducer
cater for these options.
Interface options available are:
Gain and offset of a Positek inductive Rotary transducer is set during
calibration but these can be trimmed in the field if adjustable type
is specified.
The range of Positek's inductive sensors available can cater for
rotary movement of up to 160 degrees. The linearity of Positek's inductive
Rotary transducer is better than 0.1º over 90º rotation
although the sensor has a maximum range of 160º rotation.
Positek's non-contact inductive Rotary transducer
offer excellent performance and durability from a low cost device
making them a better alternative to traditional ones.
