CSA Approved Intrinsically Safe Sensors

Intrinsically Safe systems provide a safe operating environment for personnel and equipment. Intrinsic Safety (IS) is based on the principle of restricting the electrical energy transmitted into a hazardous area, thereby ensuring that any sparks or heated surfaces that may occur as a result of electrical failures are insufficient to cause ignition. The threat of an explosion is eliminated. Positek CSA approved Intrinsically Safe sensors can be used in hazardous environments when connected to our approved galvanically isolated amplifier. Positek offers CSA approved Intrinsically Safe sensors for the following two hazard classifications:

'G' Series Sensors	Position Sensors for use in potentially explosive gas/vapour atmospheres.
'H' Series Sensors	Position Sensors for use in potentially explosive gas/vapour and dust atmospheres.

Positek sensors are now available in the EX06 versions which are CSA approved to Intrinsic Safety Specification: Class I, Zone 0 Ex ia IIC T4 (Ta = -40°C to +80°C) AEx ia IIC T4 (Ta = -40°C to +80°C) AEx iaD IIIC T93°C(Ta = -40°C to +80°C) Designates the sensor as belonging to; Class I, Zone 0: suitable for all areas except mining, : can be used in areas with continuous, long or frequent periods of exposure to hazardous gas / vapours. Protection class ia IIC, denotes intrinsically safe for Zones 0, 1 & 2 and IIA, IIB and IIC explosive gases. Temperature class T4: maximum sensor surface temperature under fault conditions 135°C. Ambient temperature range extended to -40°C to +80°C. The sensors must be used with a galvanically isolated three port amplifier designed to supply the sensor with a nominal 5V and to transmit the buffered output to a safe area.
