Different Types of Transducer

A transducer is an electronic device which converts one form of energy into another. Positek are a displacement transducer manufacturer. The products we design and manufacturer are used to convert movement or position into electrical signals which can then be measured and presented in an easy to use format for the user.

There are different types of transducer on the market, you might be surprised to know some of the devices we come into contact with on a regular basis are different types of transducers.

The two main different types of transducers are input transducers and output transducers.

Input Transducers

An input transducer takes one form of energy and converts it into electrical signals. For example; a microphone takes sound waves and converts them into electrical signals so they can be transferred along the cables and wires to the amplifiers.

Input transducers are the main type of transducer that we offer at Postiek. Our linear and rotary transducers measure the movement or displacement of a chosen object on component and turn the measurements into electrical signals.

Output Transducers

An output transducer does the opposite of an input transducer; they take electrical signals and convert them into another form of energy. For example, a lamp converts electricity into light, or a motor takes electrical signals and converts them into motion.

Other different types of transducer

There are other different types of transducer depending on what measurements are required.

Pressure Transducers measure pressure, this is one of our newer product ranges at Positek, they come from our sister company Variohm Eurosensor.

Temperature Transducers are another of our newer ranges from Variohm Eurosensor. They measure the change in temperature and convert it into an electrical reading

Position Transducers- Position Transducers are our speciality, we have different ranges depending on the type of measurement required. Rotary transducers for round movements, linear transducers for movements in a straight line and cable extension transducers, an alternative method for measuring linear displacement.

All of our own products use our own PIPS technology. They work on a principle similar to LVDTs and RVDTs but with added benefits including higher reliability and improved stroke to length ratios. They can be custom made and delivered within two working days.

All of our transducers are manufactured to an extremely high standard using our own patented non-contacting technology making them highly accurate and reliable even in harsh environments.

Many of our products also have the added benefit of being suitable for intrinsically safe environments with ATEX approval. We also have a range which is fully submersible for subsea applications.
