Sensor industry events in 2017

This article gives details of all the main sensor industry events that are taking place in 2017. See what's new, broaden you knowledge and expand you social network.

Industry specific events can sometimes be dull affairs to the onlooker, but for anyone with a passion for their job this might be the one of the few times in a year that they can really get stuck in to developments, news and networking. There are many events for the sensor industry, and tellingly quite a few of them are held in the far East, where manufacturing is big business.

Probably the main event, covering all types of sensor, is Sensors Expo, held in San Jose, USA from 27th to 29th June. There are exhibitors showing off their latest sensors and technological developments; an education programme that allows anyone to broaden their knowledge and learn about a type of sensor they are particularly interested in, as well as social and networking events for industry professionals.

Closer to home is Smart Systems Integration 2017, held in Cork, Ireland on the 8th and 9th of March. Focusing on the developments in integrated smart technologies, with a bias towards how these technologies are being used in Europe; it is a must for anyone interested in the fast-moving world of connected devices and the Internet of Things. There is also a strong leaning towards micro technologies, which is a key area of growth for the sensor industry as equipment becomes ever smaller. If that is of interest then the European MEMS Summit 2017, in Grenoble is a good event to attend as well, from the 21st to 22nd of September.

Also in March, is SEMICON China, one of a series of events focused on semiconductor sensors. SEMICON China is on 14th to 16th March, with an event in Taiwan from the 13th to 15th of September, one in America from the 11th to 13th of July, a European event in Germany from the 14th to 17th of November and a Japanese event from the 13th to 15th of December. These are global events which strive to bring people from the sensor industry together from all over the world. Combined into the SEMICON China event is the MEMS ;amp; Sensors Industry Group Conference, which looks at creating value in the MEMS industry and what the future holds for the technology. If MEMS is your thing then don't miss out on the MEMS Engineer Forum 2017, in Tokyo on the 26th and 27th of April.

The MEMS and Sensors Technical Congress in California, from the 10th to 11th of May, is also a big event in the MEMS world. Focusing on value, security, power sources and how to process the huge volumes of data that will be generated from IoT connected devices; this is an important event with prestigious speakers and a real technical bent. The MEMS and Sensors Executive Congress US 2017, is on the 1st and 2nd of November.

Solid state sensors, actuators and microsystems are the focus of Transducers 2017, held in Taiwan from the 18th to 22nd of June. Organized and chaired by academics, this event is crucial for those interested in the cutting-edge research and development happening in the far East, especially what is being created in the Universities of the area.

There is a sensor industry event for everyone out there, perhaps several if your interests are broad or there is the possibility of moving into other technologies. It may not be possible to get to every single one, but by picking one or two that appeal you can really improve your knowledge, and most likely your business as a result of attending these events.
