Linear Position Sensor Types

We offer a range of linear position sensors which come in a range of measuring lengths to suit your application.

There are different types of linear position sensors on the market today which use different technologies. Our sensors use our own inductive position sensing technology which is non-contacting and therefore gives our sensors long life.

What is a Linear Position Sensor?

A linear position sensor is a device used to measure the linear displacement of an object. They can be used in many different industries and applications.

Linear Position Sensor Types

Positek inductive position sensing technology our own technology is a non-contacting method of determining position. Our sensors are available as either linear or rotary. They have a long life and are highly reliable

LVDT LVDTs are similar to inductive position sensors but use extra coils and do not have built-in signal conditioning.

Ultrasonic position sensors emit ultrasonic waves which are reflected the device. The angle and strength of the waves reflected into the device can be used to determine the position of the object in question.

Laser similar to ultrasonic sensors, laser sensors use feedback reflected in the lenses of the laser sensor to measure linear displacement. Laser sensors can also measure shape and can be used to count items during manufacturing processes.

Hall Effect Hall Effect sensors use disturbances in magnetic fields to determine position. These can be either linear position sensors or rotary position sensors.

Linear Potentiometers a potentiometer uses a slider which moves along a resistive track to measure linear displacement. Unlike the other types of technologies discussed, potentiometers are a type of contacting technology. This makes them less costly than non-contacting options.

Our Linear Position Sensor Types

All our types of linear position sensors are manufactured to the highest standard. They are fully customisable and manufactured on site with very short lead times.

Submersible Linear Position Sensors our submersible linear position sensors are made from marine-grade stainless steel and are more reliable than competitor alternatives. They can withstand depths of up to 3500m and are also suitable for harsh wet environments as they are highly durable.

Intrinsically Safe Linear Position Sensors our intrinsically safe range of linear position sensors are suitable for environments where there is a risk of explosion. They can be either ATEX/IECEx or CSA approved and are highly reliable. They isolate the large electrical output and buffer it into a safe area.

Standard Range Linear Position Sensors as well as our industry-specific types of linear position sensors we also have our standard range. As with all our sensors, these are fully customisable and use our own non-contacting technology.
